The best skin care will always be nature. Most of us prefer not to use products that contain harmful chemicals for our skin and would opt for natural remedies to keep our skin fresh and healthy. With Ayurveda, the ancient science of healing, and a spillway for many of nature’s beauty secrets, there are now more natural ways for you to look after your skin.
Here are some of the best ayurvedic face packs for glowing skin:
1. Turmeric and Besan
Turmeric is an antiseptic that is also anti-inflammatory and antibacterial (1). Its skin-brightening properties are also well-known. Besan is an excellent exfoliator that helps to keep your skin’s pH balanced.
- 1 tbsp Besan (gram flour)
- 1/2 tbsp turmeric
- 1 tbsp rose water
Mix these ingredients into a thick paste and apply it to your face and neck. Leave it for 15 minutes and then wash it off. You can do this face pack 2x a week.
2. Rice flour and Sandalwood
Sandalwood has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial qualities, which may help prevent pigmentation caused by age and UV exposure, as well as the growth of S.aureus, the bacteria that causes acne and pimples. Coarse rice flour can be a great substitute for store-bought scrubs. This face pack will help remove dead skin cells from your skin and brighten it.
- 1 tbsp rice flour
- 1/2 tsp sandalwood powder or 2-3 drops of sandalwood oil
- 1 tbsp rose water
Combine the ingredients and apply them to your face. Leave for about 5-10 minutes. Give a gentle massage before washing it off. You can do this once a week
3. Oatmeal, turmeric, and sandalwood
Boiled oats effectively cleanse your skin. It includes saponins, which help eliminate all skin contaminants. It also aids in the reduction of skin irritation. It creates a great face pack when combined with turmeric and sandalwood to keep your skin healthy.
- 1 tbsp boiled oats
- 1/2 tsp sandalwood powder or 2-3 drop sandalwood oil
- a pinch of turmeric
- rose water
Mix the ingredients and apply them to your face. Leave it for 5 minutes and wash. You can use this 2-3 times a week.
4. Turmeric, besan, and milk
This face pack helps fade blemishes by exfoliating and removing dead cells from your skin. The combination of besan and turmeric reduces tanning and brightens your skin, while the lactic acid in milk keeps it supple.
- 1 tbsp besan (gram flour)
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
Mix them well into a paste and apply it. Leave it till it becomes dry and then you can wash it off. You can do this once a week.
5. Aloe vera, lemon and honey
Acne may be prevented by using an aloe vera face pack. It stimulates the fibroblasts in your skin, which helps to produce collagen and elastin. This enhances the appearance and health of the skin. It may brighten and soften the skin when combined with lemon and honey.
- 2 tbsp aloe vera gel
- 1/2 tsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp honey
Mix the ingredients and apply to your face avoiding the eye area. Do this two twice a week.
6. Tomato and Multani mitti
Tomatoes contain lycopene, an antioxidant that helps protect your skin from UV rays (10). Multani mitti, often known as Fuller’s earth, is a skin cleanser. It keeps the skin bright by removing dirt and pollutants.
- 1 tbsp Multani mitti
- 2 tbsp tomato juice
Mix these two ingredients together and apply to your face and neck. Once dry, wash your face and pat dry. You can use this 2-3 times a week.
7. Yogurt and turmeric
This face pack helps to calm your skin, brighten it, and keep your skin healthy and supple.
- 2 tbsp of plain yogurt or curd
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
Mix, apply, and let it dry before washing it off. Do this 2-3 times a week.
8. Honey and lemon
Honey is a good anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, healing, and cleaning agent since it includes vitamins, minerals, amino acids, antioxidants, and specific enzymes. Honey’s qualities aid in the maintenance of good skin and the prevention of acne. Vitamin C and citric acid are found in lemons. Lemon has a brightening and astringent effect that many skincare experts testify.
- 1 tsp organic honey
- few drops of lemon juice
Mix these two-ingredient and apply them all over your face. Make sure to avoid the eye area. After 20 minutes, wash it. You can do this 2-3 times a week.
On a side note, before you apply any face pack, be sure to do a patch test first. Also, after using a face pack with lemon juice, be sure to wear sunscreen if you’re going out as lemon juice makes your skin photosensitive. For a face pack with rose water, you can substitute it with water if you don’t have any. All these ingredients can be found at the supermarket or local Indian groceries.
